The Dreaded Nightshades: Are Tomatoes Toxic?

I periodically get questions about the family of vegetables called nightshades, which includes such delicious members as the tomato, tomatillo, tamarillo, and many other favorites.

But nightshades have been connected to inflamation, arthritis, and other problems. Some members of the family will kill you if you eat them, and their nickname, deadly nightshade, is well-earned.

So should we avoid them?

Here’s my answer.
