Losing 100 Pounds (And Counting) On A Raw Vegan Diet With Richard Widmark

Monday, October 29th, 2012

Imagine losing 100 pounds and still having 300 more to go to reach your goal weight. The idea seems staggering, but that’s where Richard Widmark is today.

Richard got his weight loss started with a cooked vegan diet, but he’s now concentrating on one that is low fat, raw, and vegan.

I talk to Richard about his goals, what he eats, where he stumbles, and how he keeps himself inspired.

Also in this episode I explain how often you should be exercising for optimal improvement and talk about some of the very cool activities I’ve found in my new home, Austin Texas.

Show Notes:

1) Our persimmon raid on The University Of Texas’s Austin campus.

2) Richard Widmark’s website, which includes links to his youtube videos.

3) Fighting Candida with the right kind of raw diet.

4) My raw tomato corn slaw

5) What do I think of the Woodstock Fruit Festival.

The Fine Art Of Persimmon Raiding For Adventure And Full Bellies

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

PersimmonsHave you ever had one of the wonderfully goo-filled sweet bags of orange flesh we call persimmons? Whether they’re of the oriental or American variety, they’re pretty amazing.

But do you realize they taste approximately 15% better when when you don’t just plop down your hard earned cash for them, but instead find a free-growing tree overfilling with the fruit and pick your fill?

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of returning to a full persimmon tree I’d discovered on an earlier bike trip around Austin, Texas. This time, though, I took some friends and we got about $150 of free fruit for our efforts.

For five hungry raw foodists, there are not many better finds.

Check out the video below to see how it all went down.

The Raw Food Choice: Nuts Or Fruit?

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

Are you going to eat fatty foods or fruit?

Given that vegetables alone cannot supply our caloric needs, we need to choose one or the other if we’re not going to starve eating a raw diet.

So what happens when you choose fat?

Lauren Knowles gives us a great example. She writes:

“I am a raw foodist but eat seeds and some nuts. What should I eat for protein? AS I am hungry if I just eat greens. I do have candida very badly and I am always watching sugar intake. I do not eat fruit at all.

Please advise.”

Those that try to avoid fruit and just eat fat for their calories tend to run into blood sugar issues, particularly candida.

Luckily, plenty of studies outlined the proper course for stabilizing blood sugar levels through dietary improvement.

When you choose a low fat raw vegan diet that promotes not only stable blood sugar, but overall high levels of health, life starts to get a lot better.
